The HPE BC023A#ABA is an external tape drive that works with the LTO-8 Ultrium format and gives you a dependable option for long-term data protection and archiving. Each LTO-8 cartridge can store up to 30 TB of compressed data, so entire project archives or quarterly backups can live on a single tape instead of a stack of media.
The drive writes data at a native speed of 300 MB per second, which shortens backup windows and makes it practical to move large files off disk before the end of the day. Built-in AES 256-bit hardware encryption keeps sensitive information secure while the write-once-read-many mode lets you create cartridges that cannot be altered, an important feature for audit or compliance records.
A 6 Gb/s SAS interface links the unit to a server or workstation without special adapters. The half-height form factor fits any standard 5.25-inch bay or can sit on a desk in an external enclosure, and the included mini SAS cable gets you connected right away. The drive reads and writes both LTO-8 and LTO-7 media, giving you flexibility if your library already contains earlier tapes.
Support for Linear Tape File System (LTFS) lets you mount a tape in the operating system and browse files in a familiar folder structure, making the technology approachable for teams that are new to tape. Video production houses can offload high-resolution footage for safekeeping, research labs can archive experiment data without filling expensive disk arrays, and IT departments can meet off-site retention targets while keeping costs predictable.
The package is backed by a three-year parts warranty from HPE, adding peace of mind for installations that need to run unattended for years at a time.
